wow, thanks for posting these man. i will listen.
bradley - many thanks, i appreciate that. you should definitely check out the audio when you get a sec - it will be time well-spent.
good will - i will be interested in hearing your reactions to the talks. perhaps you could do a brief post on each one.
I wish I had time to reflect and post on all of these. some comments for now...
One thing I liked that Piper said in his talk (paraphrase): “There are no more ‘so that’s’ after joy.” In other words, joy is never a means to an end. Joy is the end. It is true that good works overflow from joy [in God] but that doesn’t mean we seek to be joyful so that we can do good works. The chief end of man is to glorify God by enjoying him forever as Piper would say. We seek to find our joy in God. And when we do, we find that holy living and Christ-likeness are the natural qualities of this kind of life.
Now that seems to me the right way to go about it. No use making the good works and holy living the end. If we do that we’ll never be acting for the right reasons and we’ll never be happy (have joy). But if we find our joy in God first then the good works will be the easy (and natural and fun) part.
Just fell upon this site and conference. Where are these conferences held? this is great for women as well. WE need a better understaning of daily spirtual growth in our walk with jesus christ. God Bless!
Good Will, great synopsis; i think you really hit the heart of piper's message. i appreciate you sharing that.
EMA - This one was held in Minneapolis, MN. This was the first Desiring God conference I was able to make it out to, and I highly recommend attending next year if you are at all able.
